Carry-on only packing list

Five nights, one bag, no checked luggage. This preset caps clothing, adds a liquids bag and packing cubes, and leaves out anything too bulky for the cabin.

What's on the list
Clothing, capped. 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 6 pairs of underwear, 6 pairs of socks, sleepwear, a light jacket, a rain jacket and walking shoes. On carry-on trips, tops stop at 5 per person however long you're away.
Toiletries for the cabin. A clear liquids bag, plus toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, body wash, skincare and the rest. Pack the liquids in travel sizes.
Documents and money. Passport or ID, boarding passes, travel insurance details, any visas or entry forms, lodging confirmations, an emergency contacts list, copies of key documents, cards, some cash and a backup card stored separately.
Health. A mini first-aid kit, pain reliever, prescriptions, hand sanitizer and glasses.
Small extras. Packing cubes, a laundry bag, a foldable tote, a compact umbrella, earplugs, a sleep mask, a daypack, snacks and a pen for arrival forms.
Left off on purpose. Tents, strollers, camp gear, beach umbrellas and luggage locks don't appear on carry-on trips.
Phone and charger are always on the list. Tech is off in this preset, but carry-on trips still get your phone and charger. Turn on "Include tech / work" to add a power bank, adapter and headphones.
Before you go
- Check your airline's carry-on size and weight limits. They vary by airline and fare.
- Check the liquids rule where you're flying from. In the US, TSA allows containers of 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less in one quart-size bag. In Canada, CATSA allows containers of 100 ml or less in one clear, resealable bag of up to 1 L. Medications and baby food have exceptions.
- Keep power banks with you. The FAA says spare lithium batteries, including power banks, belong in carry-on bags only. If your bag gets checked at the gate, take them out first.
