Privacy Policy

Suitcase List (suitcaselist.com) is operated by Site Wise Software ("we", "us"). This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- You can use the packing list generator without an account and without giving us any personal information.
- Your work is saved in your own browser, not on our servers.
- We only get your email address if you type it into a form.
- Marketing emails are optional. We only send them if you tick "Also send me occasional tips from Site Wise Software. (Optional, unsubscribe anytime.)" That box is separate and unticked by default.
- We don't sell your personal information.
What we collect
Information saved in your browser. The site saves your current packing list and up to 5 saved trips in your browser's local storage under the keys pack-list-v1 and pack-trips-v1. This stays on your device so you can come back to it. We can't see it. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
Email forms. If you submit a form, we receive your email address and the packing list you ask us to send, and your trip start date if you enter one (used only for an optional reminder 3 days before your trip). We also record which form you used (for example, on a results page or a guide) so we know which parts of the site are useful. Sign-ups go to Brevo, our email provider. Our forms send Brevo your email address (and your first name if you give it). Brevo then emails you a link to confirm your subscription (double opt-in), and you're only added once you click it.
Marketing consent. Marketing email is optional. We'll only send you packing tips and seasonal travel-gear ideas if you tick "Also send me occasional tips from Site Wise Software. (Optional, unsubscribe anytime.)" You can unsubscribe anytime: every email has an unsubscribe link.
Analytics (only if you accept cookies). If you click Accept in our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC, to see aggregated usage: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, what device they use, and events such as finishing a calculation, printing, or clicking a partner link. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_<ID>) only after you accept. Until then, and if you decline, Google Analytics doesn't load at all (we use Google Consent Mode with everything denied by default). We don't use analytics to identify you personally, and we don't use advertising cookies.
Server logs. Our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the time of a request) for security and reliability.
Affiliate links
Some links go to partner sites. If you click one, that partner may set its own cookies to track the referral. Their privacy policies apply on their sites. See our affiliate disclosure.
Who processes data for us

These providers handle data on our behalf under their own terms and security practices. Our service providers (including Google and our email provider) may store and process your information in the United States and other countries. There it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under those countries' laws. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the providers' standard contractual clauses.
If the site is sold
If we sell or transfer this site, or the business that runs it, the personal information we hold for the site (such as the email list and sign-up records) may be shared with the prospective buyer during due diligence, under a confidentiality agreement, and transferred to the buyer. The buyer must use it only for the purposes in this policy, unless you agree otherwise. We'll tell subscribers about the transfer by email and on this page before it takes effect or as soon as possible afterward, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information at any time.
How long we keep it
- Browser storage: until you clear it or reset the tool.
- Email list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Emails sent only to deliver your requested list or estimate are deleted from our email provider within 90 days.
- Trip start date: deleted after your reminder is sent or once the trip date has passed.
- Analytics: Google Analytics keeps event data for 14 months, then deletes it.
Your choices and rights
- Withdraw cookie consent anytime: click Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and choose Decline. Google Analytics stops loading and we remove its cookies from this site. You can also delete cookies in your browser.
- Unsubscribe anytime using the unsubscribe link in any email, or email us and we'll remove you. Unsubscribing withdraws your consent to receive our emails; Brevo keeps a record of the unsubscribe so you aren't emailed again.
- Ask for a copy, a correction or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by emailing us.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The tools still work.
- We'll respond to privacy requests within 30 days.
- If you're in the EU or UK, we rely on your consent (marketing email, analytics and ad cookies), on performing your request (sending the list or estimate you asked for) and on our legitimate interests (security logs, basic site improvement).
- If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you can ask to know, correct or delete your personal information and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising. We don't sell personal information. If we use ad cookies for personalized ads, you can opt out through Cookie settings / a "Do Not Sell or Share" link, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals.
- If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (oipc.bc.ca) or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca). If you're in the EU/UK, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site isn't directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy. If we make a material change, especially to how we use your email address or if the site changes owner, we'll post a notice on this page and email subscribers before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
